Understanding My Bill

During the recent cold weather, our customers have had many questions about their bill. This site was designed to try to answer some of those questions.

I leave my thermostat at 78 degrees like you said in the summer, but my bill is higher than ever. Why is that?

Even though the thermostat is set at 78 degrees, if the outside temperature is in the 80s or 90s - or worse, because of the humidity, your cooling system will be working hard to cool your home. Not only is it cooling, but trying to remove some of that humidity from the air. As a result, your electricity bill will be higher.

Combine that with poor insulation or leaving a window open or a door cracked, your cooling system will be working overtime to keep up with where your thermostat is set. And keep in mind, for every degree below 78 you set your thermostat, your system will be working that much more. Check out this demonstration to learn more about that.
