Gulf Power Company is an investor-owned electric utility with all of its common stock owned by Atlanta-based Southern Company.

In fact, Gulf Power customers enjoy one of the lowest prices for electricity in the nation and the lowest price in the state, among major investor-owned electric utilities.

Where We Serve

Gulf Power's service territory spans the area from the Alabama border on the west to the Apalachicola River on the east; from the Alabama border on the north to the Gulf of Mexico on the south. Gulf Power serves 418,892 retail customers directly and another 15,281 customers through the wholesale delivery of electricity to one investor-owned electric utility and one municipality. In all, Gulf Power serves customers in 72 towns and communities.

Our Economic Impact

Gulf Power and Southern Company subsidiaries in Northwest Florida employ 1,408 people. During 2006, they received $101 million in wages. Additionally, 545 pensioners received company retirement benefits.

Gulf Power is the largest single taxpayer in Northwest Florida. City, county, state and federal taxes totaled $133.1 million for the year. That amounts to 11.0 cents out of every dollar taken in, or $321 per customer. The company's daily tax bill for 2006 amounted to $364,632.

Gulf Power has invested more than $1 billion in facilities in Northwest Florida, plus more than an additional $200 million in neighboring states to meet customer energy needs.

Environmental Stewardship

Gulf Power's challenges and responsibilities are clear - provide reliable and affordable energy while minimizing any impact on the environment. The company has an excellent record here, meeting all state and federal health-based environmental standards. In addition, the company has reduced power plant emissions by 71 percent since 1992 despite an almost 20 percent increase in demand for electricity.

Community Leadership

Gulf Power has been a part of Northwest Florida since 1926, and through the Gulf Power Foundation and other donations, the company supports many charitable, educational and civic endeavors. Gulf Power gives scholarships to every institution of higher learning in Northwest Florida. In addition, the Gulf Power Academy at the West Florida High School of Advanced Technology is an award-winning, model program that ensures a talented workforce for years to come.
