Technical Specifications

1. Meter Base Surge Arrestor

Applications
120 VAC-240 VAC Surge Arrester for residential and light commercial / industrial usage. Installed at wattmeter, safely clamps and dissipates lightning induced AC line high voltage current impulses going to a residence, apartment or light commercial / industrial building. Also protects against AC line temporary overvoltage conditions.

Features
  • 40,000 amp peak capability, each 120 VAC leg
  • 210 VAC, continuous 5 minute, temporary overvoltage clamping capacity.
  • Lowest, reliable voltage clamping level.
  • Safety fusing, both 120 VAC legs
  • Patented LED "unit good" indicators, both 120 VAC legs
  • Fire-proof and explosion-proof polycarbonate glass-fiber reinforced enclosure with matching mounting connector
  • Sealed unit except for mounting connector wiring opening
  • For less inductance, 10# AWG tinned wires
Electrical and Environmental Specs

Maximum Peak Surge Current 40,000+ amperes
Maximum Clamping Voltage @ 40,000 amperes, each 120 VAC leg 840 Volts DC
Starting Clamping Voltage Level @ 1ma, each 120 VAC leg 240 Volts AC
Accelerated Life Test: 13,000 volts, 1.2/50 µsec. Open circuit, 5,500 amperes, 8/20 µsec. Short circuit, 100 surge cycles, 6 seconds apart. No failures or arching allowed. Results: Surge arresters still in excellent working condition at end of test
Temporary Overvoltage Test: Continuous, 5 minute, maximum line voltage without thermal runaway, must be 185 VAC or greater Result: Passed at 240 Volts DC
End of Life Failure Mode Test: While in overvoltage induced thermal runaway, apply 7,000 amp @ 120 VAC. Surge arrester must fail without faulting the AC line. No arching allowed. Result: Passed
Salt-Fog Corrosion Resistance Very Good
UV Resistance Good UV stability in tropical conditions
