Why do I Need Surge Protection?
Gulf is one of the top lightning producing states in the country. Lightning strikes Gulf tens of thousands of times a year causing computers to "crash", fax machines to stop faxing, and expensive home entertainment systems to suffer "fried" circuits or shorten life expectancy.

Premium Surge Protection guards you from lightning-related surges as well as other potentially damaging surges. Other surges can happen anytime there is high wind, an accident interrupts power or when power is re-established. You may see only a flicker of the lights or nothing at all, but for today's micro chip driven electronics, the result can be disastrous.

2.
Why do I need Phone and Cable TV protection?
Most people think lightning attacks a computer or TV only through the electrical outlet. Sometimes it does. But lightning can also enter your home through the phone or cable TV lines.

3.
Why get surge protection from Gulf Power Company?
High quality, properly applied surge protection devices affords the ultimate in total equipment protection. Most point-of-use devices sold in stores look great from the outside and provide limited protection to only those devices plugged into them. We will provide the highest quality surge protection. We will install it correctly. You will be protected. If surges do breach the system, the protected equipment will be repaired or replaced because it is backed by an industry-leading manufacturer's warranty.

4.
Can this System Offer Protection for Older Two-wire Homes?
Yes, Premium Surge Protection can protect older homes not having proper grounding. Some homes of this type will require the installation of a ground rod to bring the home up to National Electrical Code standards. The ground fault path is necessary for the surge arresters to dissipate a surge.

5.
Do I Still Need Point-of-use Surge Protection?
Premium Surge Protection is a comprehensive surge protection that eliminates surges entering the home through the electric, cable or telephone lines. However, surges may enter the home through other means, via a remote building (garage or workshop) electrically attached to the house, swimming pool pump, outdoor lights, etc. Because of this, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) recommends the additional use of power strips to enhance protection for sensitive electronic equipment.

6.
Is this a Lightning Protection System?
No, Premium Surge Protection will not prevent lightning from striking your home. No product on the market will prevent lightning from striking a home nor will any product protect against lightning damage. However, Premium Surge Protection will cover any protected equipment damaged by a lightning induced surge and entering the home through the electric service, cable or telephone lines.

What is grounding?
A good grounding system is your first line of defense. It works in conjunction with Premium Surge Protection to provide a total defense system. The purpose of grounding is to limit voltage due to lightning or line surges. These sources of over voltages are provided with an alternate path around the electrical system of your home, intentionally connecting the system to earth. The phone and coax lines are bonded to the electrical ground to tie the grounding system together.
