Solar For Schools
Gulf Power’s Solar for Schools program provides a learning environment designed to shed light on the subject of renewable energy. The program focuses on the planet’s largest energy source - the sun - and brings it into the classroom using practical applications.
At several locations in Northwest Florida, Gulf Power has worked with the Florida Solar Energy Center to set up just such an application on display. A 4-kilowatt photovoltaic solar array was put in each location, not only providing solar-generated electricity, but allowing students a real-time view of solar energy.
Solar for Schools is a program that uses voluntary contributions to fund material for energy education, permanent demonstration displays, savings bonds for science contests and teacher education.
In some cases, the solar array is hooked to the Internet, enabling Web visitors to view the array's output.
