The communications gateway is the third element of Energy Select. This small device is connected to your Internet router or modem near your computer system. The gateway facilitates communication between the thermostat and system network and provides the connection to the Internet Web Portal for programming your thermostat.

In order for the gateway to communicate to the Internet, it is necessary for the customer to maintain broadband Internet service. The customer must also confirm that the connection of the Energy Select gateway at the Internet router or modem remains in place in order for the system to operate properly.

Once the Energy Select system is installed, it is very important that the customer not discontinue their broadband Internet service that provides connection to the gateway. Otherwise, the gateway will not be able to communicate with the thermostat or the Internet Web Portal. This communication is essential for proper billing as well as receiving and sending programming changes and other necessary data.
