Plants

Part of a fleet of 70 power plants throughout Southern Company, Gulf Power has three wholly-owned generating plants and a co-generation facility in Northwest Florida. We also own a percentage interest in two other facilities located out-of-state. By carefully forecasting energy needs and securing the most economical sources available, we're able to operate our power plants at a 99 percent level of reliability — among the highest in the nation.

Located in northeast Pensacola at the mouth of Escambia River on Governor's Bayou

Plant Sholz
Herbert Scholz Generating Plant
Located 25 miles east of Marianna on the west bank of the Apalachicola River.
Total nameplate generating capacity - 92,000 KW

Plant Smith
Lansing Smith Generating Plant
Located on Alligator Bayou off of North Bay in Bay County, 15 miles north of Panama City.
Total nameplate generating capacity - 945,000 KW
Generating units - 4
Type of fuel - coal and natural gas

Gulf Power also own parts of generating units at:
Mississippi Power's Plant Daniel - 506,500 KW (50% ownership)
Georgia Power's Plant Scherer - 210,900 KW (25% ownership)
Commercial generation Pea Ridge - 12,000 KW
